About SAFE

Since its beginnings in 1996, Disability Services, a program of SAFE, has become recognized as a primary leader in the field of domestic and sexual violence prevention and intervention for children and adults with disabilities. Program staff has provided training and education on violence prevention, healthy relationships, and related topics to more than 77,000 children, youth, and adults with disabilities, as well as their family members. Others who have received training include disability, crisis service, child advocacy, and criminal justice professionals.

On Jan. 1, 2017, SafePlace and the Austin Children’s Shelter merged to become The SAFE Alliance, which exists to Stop Abuse for Everyone. SAFE is dedicated to ending violence through prevention, advocacy, and comprehensive services for individuals, families, and communities that have been affected by abuse.
